her Dreams of RELEASE meet reality
The Pacific Film Foundation documentary team is working to bring to the screen stories of personal transformation that occur inside prison walls. While visiting and filming inside California prisons, including San Quentin and the Valley State Prison for Women, we began to realize the need to honor the uniqueness of one person’s individual journey.
And, because we were filming and in production over a long period of time, it was inevitable that one or more of the people we met and interviewed inside the prison would eventually be released.
One of those people is Mianta McKnight, who served her time ( 18 years and one day!), was released in 2013, and is now a hard-working young mother raising her two small children (born since her release) in a loving, educated, artistic, and refreshingly multi-cultural way.
Despite long odds against her, Mianta is succeeding.
